Making progress & snow melting

Well last week is in the books. Glad to have those 2 weeks behind me. Got derailed a bit by my GI procedure and last week by the snow. I got on the scale Saturday morning totally anticipating - and deserving - to be on the plus side of my last weigh in. Oddly enough, I was surprised with a loss!!

Beginning weight: 187.8
Last week: 182.4
This week: 181.8 (-.6 this week., -6 overall)

Boom! What better motivation for this week?

Last week's snow meant a lot of time on the trainer.
I did a 45 minute stint on the trainer one day and it might be the first time I've ridden that long. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought! I've given up trying to get my cadence censor to work inside. I just set the timer on my phone and put it out of sight. I'm not spending nearly enough time on he bike yet though. Gotta ramp it up!!

Snow persisted this weekend so it was a lot of couch time with the pup and some treadmill walking at home. It's not my favorite treadmill, but it's better than nothing.

Sunday was a yoga day - which was kind of a bust. My knee was really killing me after my walk Saturday. I was hoping yoga would help but it just made my hamstrings really sore. Oh well.

This week resumes our regular schedule! Couldn't be happier. Let's go.

Happy running!

What I'm up to: Snowpocalypse edition

We are experiencing quite the little surge of winter down here.

In case you forgot, I live in Kentucky. Ya know:

Ellie does not approve of the 11" of snow and -15 wind chills.

To be honest, I'm not crazy about it either. The weekend was filled with sloth and gluttony as my body tried to recoup from surgery last week and some residuals cold nonsense. I went for a run Sunday but the temperatures were starting to drop and I didn't last long.
Monday the city shut down as the snow fell. We got about 12" in some parts over the course of a few hours. It was tense. We were on the NBC Nightly News for "southern city least capable of dealing with snowfall that they inevitably get every damn year". Something like that anyway.

So Monday and Tuesday saw the end of my streak of healthiness. I ate like shit. I felt like shit. It has improved slightly. Today was my first day back at work this week. Being on a schedule is crucial. I am a boredom eater. Also, I found these:

Say what?? They weren't my all time favorite (peanut butter is, in case you were wondering). But they were damn good.

My bike has been my friend with the crazy weather and I've gotten in some good rides. I am sort of chalking this week up as a loss and hoping to just get through tomorrow before rebooting on Saturday. Here's hoping!

Happy running!!

Have you gotten any of this devil snow??
How do you deal with the winter weather?

Monday Monday

**this post was originally published on 2/2 but blogger had a seizure and took it down. However, far be it for me to deprive you of my awesome updates

Monday again?

My typical Sunday blog time was preempted by the Super Bowl.  I promise to fill you in on my week of workouts.

There's not too terribly much to report thanks to this stupid cold I've acquired. After 4 days of itchy throated coughing I'm finally coughing "productively". Hopefully that means we're in the home stretch. I'd like to thank God, my family, and pseudo ephedrine for getting me through it.

Ran and biked this weekend, though in limited capacity. Hated cutting my run Saturday in half but thought it best to be kind to my body. I only wish it had the same respect for me.

But before I left for my run there was some mandatory puppy cuddle time

And of course, no weekend is complete  without a Set Up Sunday.

A frozen lasagna I made at Christmas will serve as dinner twice this week. An awesome baked fajita recipe will make fajitas for one night and quesadillas for another.

Sunday set up for me also means cleaning out the fridge of all the old "UFOS" (aka unidentified food objects) and washing dishes.

So let's go Monday. Bring it.

Happy running!

Did you watch the super bowl? Happy with the result?
How do you deal with a cold?

Week in Review

Hard to believe we're half way through with February. This week also starts lent which means fish fry's and (sometimes) warmer weather here in Louisville. I don't hate it.

Tonight, though, they're predicting snowpocalypse.

This week was pretty forgettable. At least I'm hoping I can just forget it and move on. Wednesday I had a third surgery to remove debris/stones and inflate my bile duct. I agonized over the decision to have the surgery. I don't feel like my doctors listen to me or understand my issues. I called 10 other GI's and none would see me because I'd already seen a GI and it would be considered a "second opinion". Worse than the mafia, these assholes. Anyway, I had the procedure and hopefully this is behind me now. Recovery was a little rough this time no think the anesthesia and intubation just exacerbated the chest cold I've had. I was basically immobile Wednesday and slept about 17 hours. Thursday was tough going back to work but Friday was honestly terrible.

More from last week:

Onward and upward.

Ran this morning and felt good. No running with the girls this weekend. I was honestly super bummed we didn't get to run together. I really look forward to it every week.

Trying to get back on track this week with workouts and nutrition. Got my plan set but lots of potential obstacles.

Happy running!!

Wednesday (W)Randoms

Like what I did with the title? I'm a genius, I know.

Yesterday was a swim day. First swim in a few weeks and my body was pretty sore from Monday's body pump. I had to wait for a lane and it took all of my will power to stay put and wait. Finally got in a lane and did a variation of Iron Fit's Swim #1. I cut out 100yds off of the warm up and cool down because of boredom. 2000 yards isn't too bad though.

Since yesterday was a swim day, today is a librarian bun day.
I look like I'm 5. Instills confidence in clients
Last night was Fajita night. We love any variety of Mexican food in the Porter house - real or otherwise. I found this great recipe for oven fajitas on pinterest. I've made it twice and we ate it for dinner last night on burritos and then we'll have the leftovers on quesadillas Friday. Easy Peasy!

Easy Oven Fajitas from BudgetBytes.com

Ingredients
  • 1 Packet of your favorite fajita seasoning (or make your own - I'm lazy)
  • 2 small (or 1 large) onion
  • 2 green bell peppers
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 lb chicken breast
  • 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 medium lime
  • 8x 6" tortillas
  • Sour cream & Cilantro for toppings
Instructions
  • Preheat oven to 400 Degrees
  • Cut the bell peppers, onion and chicken into thin uniform strips. You want everything to be the same size and shape. Place in a large 9x13 casserole or a large sheet pan. You want a lot of extra room so the vegetables roast and not steam
  • Sprinkle the seasoning over the vegetables and chicken. Drizzle the vegetable oil over top and use your hands to mix it all together. Mix it good!
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes stirring half way through. I did mine on 2 sheet pans and it only needed to cook for about 25 so keep an eye on it
  • Once it's done squeeze the lime over top of the hot veggies and top with cilantro
  • Serve over Uncle Ben's 90 second mexican rice or any favorite rice for a burrito bowl. Wrap in a tortilla for walking burritos
I could've eaten the whole pan by myself

Easy Peasy!

I've been paying particular attention to food this week since I was up weight-wise last week. I still can't figure out why. I was sick at the end of the week with this stupid cold. I missed a workout and  wasn't eating all of my daily points. I'm hoping that's the cause. This week I want to get a workout in every day (except perhaps my rest day, Friday) and make sure I'm eating all of my points.

Starting Weight: 187.6
Last week: 183.6 (-4)
This week: 184.4 (+0.8 for the week, -3.2 overall)

Unsure about tonight's workout as of yet. It's pretty cold but if I can get home before dark I'd love to run. If not, it's bike city for me.

Happy Hump Day
